This is a restorative class  with gentle, somatic (deeply felt) movement to help facilitate recovery from illness and injury, but also perfect for anyone looking for stress-relief and deep body connection.

Charlotte safely and intuitively helps students to reconnect to their bodies at a pace that suits them. Classes include yoga asanas (postures), pranayama (yogic breathing) and meditation – all at levels and depths that can be modified to suit individual needs. Props are used to help the body open up and support muscles that need protection as they are encouraged to strengthen at a safe rate.

There is a strong emphasis on connecting with the breath, with the aim of correcting disordered breathing patterns that can add to our operating below our optimal physical and emotional potential. Moving tension from the body and stilling the mind in this way helps us both cope with and recover from a wide range of conditions, including stress-related illnesses, ME and chronic fatigue syndrome.

A yoga journey to open up the body and relax the brain and nervous system. Postures can be standing, sitting; dynamic or restorative and are sequenced to ease open muscles and posture in a safe and body intelligent way, with an emphasis on the breath. I teach in a way where space is given to open up in each posture to your own body needs on that given day and props may be used to facilitate safe practise and optimum alignment. We will wind down with some restorative postures and full relaxation.

‘Charlotte is a brilliant yoga teacher. She is very knowledgeable about how to restore the body’s balance, which makes me feel rejuvenated. She is thorough, gentle, practical and intuitive, knowing just the right comment to assist me at just the right moment.’  – Denise, Brighton

After a busy day of work both our bodies and minds are looking for calm and kind attention. This weekly class aims to provide you with both, with a mindfulness meditation practice cultivating awareness of subtleties within our yoga practice. For those looking to begin or explore a mindfulness or meditation practice, interweaving it with movement can help us move away from busy brains to a place of embodiment with more ease. The class content will change from week to week and will include a combination of hatha yoga asanas (both flowing and static), breath attention (pranayama) and mindfulness meditation. Creating space and time within yoga postures melds the awareness and compassion to help bring us back to wholeness, acceptance and improved ability to cope with life’s demands. Much of the practice will be close to the ground for a calming, yin effect and is suitable for all levels, including beginners. Meditations can be practised both sitting and lying and details of the closing practice will be available to build your own home mindfulness practice.

‘I’m really enjoying yoga with Charlotte.  She really is committed to the principals of yoga and is attentive to the needs of her students, making sure you get the very most from her classes.’- Michele, Brighton

Mindfulness is the ancient practice of experiencing the present moment in all its shades, without judgement. It has become popular recently with the recognition that modern life does not always allow this kind attention to foster naturally. The essence of Mindfulness is bringing awareness and self-compassion together to help us feel and experience whatever arises with open-mindedness and curiosity.

We will use the seven pillars of mindfulness – non-judging, patience, beginner’s mind, trust, non-striving, acceptance and letting go – as guides throughout. Over 6 weeks we will build up practices for you to continue to explore at home and help build your relationship to mindfulness as both a formal practice and to help create pauses, perspective and reflection as you move through daily life. The practice will include one lying and one seated practice (with option to sit on a chair) of about 15 minutes each, with body preparation, discussion, deep listening and mindfulness exercises in between. The course will suit beginners and those with experience are welcome to enjoy group meditation and refresh their practice. It can be repeated as many times as you like.

Practising yoga postures with a focus on nurturing ease and presence as we open up areas where we hold stress can be a true source of grounding in this busy world.

This class will help you feel, meet, accept and release areas where you know – and may not notice – you hold tension. These full-body tools can help us identify and therefore prevent stress accumulating both in class and off the mat – from the postural issues of sitting on chairs and hunching over computers to the ‘busy brain’ effects of constant stimulus and psycho-social pressure. After a loosening and breath-focussing intro, you will be guided to let go and relax with the breath for ‘effortless effort’ in stronger postures to release built-up tensions. Finishing with some deep opening postures and rejuvenating relaxation.

‘Charlotte was amazing – calming and inspiring at the same time. You never realise how little you actually breathe or how much tension you carry around until someone shows you how to release it. This was the first time in a long time I actually felt relaxed. It was fantastic.’ – Isabelle, Marketing Director at Wahanda
