I attended my first yoga class over 12 years ago in Brighton and immediately knew that it would be a large part of the route to overcoming the long-term illness that I had at the time. I starting attending Jim Tarran’s classes soon after and found that I responded very deeply to the aspect of body intelligence so fundamental in Vajrasati yoga.
As a Nutritional Therapist and Yoga Teacher in Brighton I find that the combination of nutrition and yoga help me personally to deal with the stressful aspects of modern life. I also use the principles of yoga within my nutrition work to help people get to the root causes of health problems; as I specialise in stress-related problems, yoga’s focus on calming and working with the nervous system perfectly complements my therapy work. In this way I can work with clients on a one-to-one basis in both disciplines for an all-round body and mind health programme.
My yoga practice and teaching focuses on connection with body and breath to find depth and opening. Moving tension from the body and stilling the mind in this way helps us both cope with and recover from the busy world around us. This mindful approach was founded in my initial yoga teacher training with Vajrasati Yoga (500 hour Yoga Alliance certified) with a basis in Hatha and Iyengar yoga and informed by Buddhism. I have continued to explore this essence of finding our authentic selves through yoga, with further training with teachers including Judith Lasater, Donna Farhi and Tias Little and Mindfulness and Yoga training with Cathy-Mae Karelse.
In this way I can work with clients on a one-to-one basis in both yoga and nutritional therapy for an all-round body and mind health programme and this is the basis of my book The De-Stress Effect.
My new book, Yoga Therapy for Digestive Health (Singing Dragon) sheds light on the connection between the gut and the brain, explains the links between stress, trauma and digestive issues and demonstrates how yoga with its focus on stilling the mind can have profound effects on conditions such as IBS, IBD, acid reflux, colitis, diverticulitis and more.
I have also trained in teaching yoga for people with ME and Chronic Fatigue with Fiona Agombar. I teach specifically in a restorative and gentle manner for these conditions.
